Writing Prompt Wednesday: Fright Night

Do you like being scared by books, films, and surprises? Describe the sensation of being scared, and why you love it - or don't.

I love this question because I am a horror fanatic. Watching horror movies and reading horror stories/novels/documentations is my addiction. I simply can't get enough.

When I watch a horror movie or read a horror story (given that it is actually scary), I am captured and completely engrossed. I feel like I am encountering the situation myself, and I usually end up cuddling myself under a blanket. It's like I get that "thrill" fix without actually being in real danger. Even if the story isn't that abstract or interesting, I love the excitement and gut feelings of the suspense and horrifying images. I'm so attracted to the eerie moods and gruesome imagery. I'm mostly referring to movies. I have not read too many horror novels. I am just starting to become a bigger reader, but I have seen a hell of a lot of horror movies. Good ones, bad ones, gory ones, weird ones, you name it.

Two of my favorite horror movies of all time are the Exorcist and Insidious. I love the supernatural concepts more than anything. The realistic fear that comes with them, the fear that these situations could happen to some extent, yet humanity is unsure of its reality. Ugh, I love it. I'd pick a supernatural movie over a slasher any day.

So, in conclusion, I guess I'd say that being scared in this way is like taking a big thrilling risk, while not actually risking your life. It's like I'm experiencing skydiving from my own couch or the movie theater....kinda.

WHILE WE'RE ON THE TOPIC, AMERICAN HORROR STORY SEASON 4 STARTS TONIGHT, BY THE WAY! :DDDDDDDDDD
